The 'Old South'
This area of the Southern United States includes the states of Georgia, North and South Carolina, Tennesssee, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.

The history of the region was shaped by the American Civil War, and era of the plantation. In Georgia, Louisiana and Mississippi, for example, you can still see stately plantation homes as they existed in the days of slavery.

The Old South is famous for music, especially Jazz and rock-n-roll. In "Blues Alley", you will pass through many towns and cities with strong links to America's most famous jazz and blues musicians.

Popular cities for tourism include New Orleans in Louisana, Memphis and Nashville in Tennessee, and Charleston and Savanah in Georgia.

The nature of the Old South is unique in the United States. A popular past time is exploring the region's 'bayous' by boat. These are swampy areas, overgrown with tropical vegetation, and supporting a large population of bird and aquatic life.

America's most visited national park - Smokey Mountains National Park - is in the state of Tennesee. The Cherokee Indian reservation is in the state of South Carolina. Ask us about renting your own luxury house in the Smokey Mountains as part of your fly-drive holiday.
